Through the end of April 2010, sales of the United States Mint’s American Silver Eagle bullion coins have reached 11,531,000. The pace of sales is still running ahead of last year, when the US Mint set a second consecutive all time high for annual silver bullion sales.

During the month of April 2010, the US Mint sold 2,507,500 of the one ounce silver bullion coins. This was a drop from the prior month when 3,381,000 coins were sold, but the change seems to be seasonal, as in the prior year a similar drop occurred during the same month. In April 2009, the US Mint sold 2,518,000 coins.
The year to date total has now reached 11,531,000 after surpassing the 10 million mark earlier this month. Significantly, this number is ahead of the sales of 9,675,000 recorded in the year ago period from January 2009 to April 2009. If the quick pace of sales continues throughout the rest of the year, the 2010 Silver Eagle sales total should surpass last year’s annual sales of 28,766,500.
